What's the best way to teach kids about safety? Get them involved!
Blank Children's Hospital in Iowa, USA unveiled a Fire Safety House last month. The house is a unique and fun way to provide children with experiential learning and training around the hazards and potentials of fire. The trailer contains three rooms: a kitchen, living room, and bedroom.
This creative initiative also boasts an exciting simulation element: "The bedroom can be filled with a non-toxic smoke. Participants are reminded of the importance of developing a home fire escape plan, including alternate escape routes from each room of their home for their family's safety."
Among others, some key demonstrations conducted in the house include how to crawl under/cover from smoke and the correct way to feel a door for heat before opening it.
